100 Essential E-Books #71 "The Divine Comedy" by Dante Alighieri
Written between 1308 and 1321 "The Divine Comedy" is an epic poem by Dante Alighieri. The poem details Dante's own travels through the realms of the dead (Hell, Purgatory, and Heaven) lead by the roman poet Virgil and (in Heaven) Beatrice, his ideal woman. The journey is an allegorical one but allows for some satire as Dante gleefully damns his enemies to eternal torment.
