nano stories #2

A gloved hand clutches a metal rung. A boot steps in soft powder. A voice says, "That's one small step..." A billion eyes look at the sky.

As "Warbirds" is set to re-air on the Syfy Channel August 8th (11 pm EST/PST), I thought it might be of interest to share some details from behind-the-scenes.

The two images accompanying this post were the concept drawings for our Pterodon villains, created by the very talented Tim Petre. Image #1 is obviously our monster in full flight, and a closeup of the head. Image #2 is a reference guide to Pterodon legs so we could build practicals to use on the set.

Tim also built, textured, and rigged the final 3D creatures. I mentioned he was talented, right?

Actually, while "Warbirds" was a tough project for numerous reasons we were very lucky to work with some great people, not the least of which was our animation team:

-Yancy Calzada, Master Character Animator.
-Bill Arbanas, Builder of WWII aircraft.
-Fred Aldeschulte, Creator of Islands, and Shattered Planes.

These three gentlemen, my producing partner Christian McIntire, and I animated the 205 FX shots needed for the film in 15 weeks. (I know, I can't believe it myself.) Mr. McIntire also composited most of the film.

As the air date gets closer I'll post more about the process and the friends we made on this film. Stay tuned.

Film Fan Style

Last Exit to Nowhere has T-Shirts and Hoodies featuring companies and places from such films as Back to the Future, The Big Lebowski, The Hudsucker Proxy, Jaws, The Usual Suspects, Enter the Dragon, Rocky, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and more. Just the thing for the dedicated film buff.

I think my favorite is for the Hotel Earle from Barton Fink. "A Day or a Lifetime."

Check them all out at the link above.

nano stories #1

Buried a mile and a half down deep in the earth. The air is thick with coal dust. No one hears my voice. In the dark I dream of flying.
